Six Times Nominations, One Oscar Awards

Posted on: 26/02/2009

There is no doubt that we could say 2009 is a year of Kate Winslet.

After five times failed in the Oscar, Kate Winslet won the Oscar Award finally at last weekend at Los Angeles.

More than ten years ago, Kate Winslet acted as a role of Rose in the Hollywood blockbuster ‘Titanic’. The film has become the highest-grossing film of all time, with a total worldwide gross of approximately $1.8 billion. It won 11 Oscar Awards, but loses the Best Actress Awards. With her Best Actress nomination for The Reader, Kate Winslet became the youngest actor receiving six Oscar’s nominations. However, she is one of the most unlucky ladies in Oscars, for she never won the Awards in the last five times.

Kate Winslet made a double win at this year’s Global Awards. One is for Best Actress for her role in “Revolutionary Road” and another one is for Best Supporting Actress in the film “The Reader”. She won the Best Actress of British Academy Film Awards as well. At the same time, she is nominated by the Oscar Awards this year again.

Kate Winslet has often been named The English Rose. In my mind, she is one of the true artists who love film deeply, but not just want to be a famous star. She does not care about the fame and wealth in Hollywood and she said that she will always love her hometown, and will not become the American because of a film. The most valuable character attracts me is that she is eager to perform in the true meaning of independent film, not the Hollywood commercial style. In 1998, she even gave up the role in shakesperian ‘Love and Anna and the King’.

Apart from her unique attitude towards film and Hollywood, she is a sensitive woman who can fully express her feeling to the public without any fake or hide. Some criticized her recent speech at the Global Awards was a “global disaster”. She was too surprised to finish a fluent speech, and forgot to thanks other beating contenders. Though this may be an awful moment in someone’s eyes, at least, I think, it reflects her direct reaction and it is better than those prepared speech with certain pattern.

She deserves all the awards, she deserves her own Oscar!
